Oak Class - Years 1 & 2

Our afternoon studying pond life and creating artwork.

WOW! Where did that half term go? Only 1 week until the holiday week.

We have been so busy it’s almost a blur!
Here are a few photos from our fabulous ‘Peter Pan and the Pirate day’ the children had a great time and threw themselves into every activity.

Peter Pan and the Pirates day!

We started our day by making tea stained treasure maps, making sure to include a compass.

Then we ventured outside for a pirate treasure hunt, the children worked in groups to find 8 golden doubloons.
Once back inside we put our treasure into a pirate treasure box for safe keeping!
Next we split into 3 groups and had a carousel of activities, starting with making pirate ships with apple and cheese, concocting a pirate smoothie (which all of the children loved!)

and finally decorating a pirate biscuit.

We then tried our hand at a tricky pirate crossword and some fabulous colouring.

After that we read a Pirate story, it was of Irish origin and told the story of Grace O’Malley.

Our milestone moment day culminated in a song and drama workshop. The children learnt a very tricky song ‘A Pirates life for me’ and then got into groups to put on a puppet performance, with the Peter Pan puppets they had made earlier in the day.

 Happy New Year Oak Class!

Firstly a huge thank you from all of the staff in Oak, for all the lovely Christmas gifts we were given. We are all very grateful.

It seems like a long time ago since the Christmas break, we hope you all had a wonderful time, the children have settled back in beautifully.

We have another jam packed half term leading up to the February holidays, so keep your eye on this class page and Parentmail for any news.

Our new topic is Peter Pan and Pirates, which the children all seem very happy with.

A Big Warm Welcome to Oak Class!

We hope you have all had a fabulous summer holiday and are ready for the new school year.

For those who are new to Oak Class we will add photos and updates onto the class page to give you an insight into what your child has been doing at school.

We hope to update this as often as possible.

We will soon be adding some useful links for Maths, English and Phonics games to have a go at home if you wish. Anything you can do at home with your child will give them a boost in their learning.

We have also added a suggested reading list for Year 1 and Year 2 along with the Oxford Owls website link.

Below we have added a suggested book list for each year group.

Where possible we would like your child to read to someone at home every day, this will help them with their comprehension in lessons, making it easier for them to access the whole curriculum.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email through the office.

We look forward to meeting you all soon.
